Planting for Good

Our planet is losing forest every day. We know where this will lead.

We have the ability to change the future. We can write our own stories. This world is changing, and changing fast. We don’t have control over everything, but every little step counts.

At Planting for Good, we are taking a joyful leap to reforesting a small patch of out planet and seeing where this goes.

This is the story: There is a plot of land in southern Appalachia – 27 acres of pasture with patches of forest on the edges. For historical reasons, this land been used to raise cattle. Cows are delightful creatures, but we know that increasing the propagation of cattle leads to cutting down forests and that eating beef leads to poor health outcomes. Why don’t we convert pasture land to forest? Why don’t we allow the land to re-wild, to convert back to forest that provides habitat for migratory birds, for deer, for any creature that lives on the land and needs a home?

Our goal is to re-forest this land – to absorb CO2 and to give habitat back to our animal neighbors. While doing this, we hope to learn and spread this knowledge across the globe.

Yes, climate change is serious. Yes, we are on the Titanic heading towards the icebergs. Yes, though, we can turn the ship. This project is just one small part of joyfully taking the wheel.
